Doppler Effect

The visitor turns a crank accelerating a long looped belt. The belt carries a small battery-powered beeper. As the belt gains speed, the visitor will notice that the pitch of the beeper seems to change, being higher when approaching and lower when receding. This is caused by the DOPPLER EFFECT, a change in perceived frequency due to the motion of the source or emitter. Light also exhibits the doppler effect (but not at everyday speeds).
