Polarized Sunglasses

This exhibit demonstrates that light is polarized by reflection and that the direction of polarization is in the plane of the reflecting surface. A long light bulb reflects off a piece of black plastic. The visitor looks at the reflection through two pieces of polarizing filter, one vertically and one horizontally polarized. Only the vertical polarizer cuts the reflection, and it does this best at one specific angle, Brewster's Angle.
