Resonant Filament

This exhibit centers around a popular item in science museum stores - the flicker-bulb. This bulb has a long flexible filament surrounding a small bar magnet. When plugged into standard 60 Hz. household current, magnetic fields make the filament wildly wave about, looking like a small flame. In our exhibit, the visitor can vary the freqiency of the current to the lamp. It is noticed that it works best at 60 Hz. as the lamp is designed to be resonamt at this frequency.
