The Beginner's Area

The Beginners Area was designed to introduce the computer novice to the hardware and inner workings of commonly used computer systems. Visitors have the opportunity to sit down and learn the basics of desktop computer operation.

Additionally, a series of four exhibits offered visitors the opportunity to:

• Examine a section from a computer hard drive under a high powered microscope.

• View the video titled "The Secret Life of the Word Processor."

• See the innards of a working computer in an installation known as "The Exploding Computer."

• Participate in hourly computer dissections.
