Internet Access: Access to the Internet and World Wide Web can be achieved through a number of sources. CompuServe and America-On-Line, for example have Internet access. These services require any standard communication software along with a modem for your computer. In addition, Internet browsers such as Netscape Navigator, Mosaic and Netcruiser can either be downloaded or purchased. We recommend the you use a browser that supports tables like, Netscape Navigator. These programs require an Internet service provider and a PPP or SLIP account.

Searching the Internet It is easy to get lost in the Internet. Each time you enter the Internet, you may find yourself taking a different path and going to different places. This is part of the excitement, but may be part of the frustration. You may be overwhelmed by the amount of information available. The more you search, the better you will be at it.

  3. Read search engines "How to Search" or "Help" sections. They are written for the specific search engine and will save you time and help you find what you are looking for.
  4. Keep track of important titles and addresses.
  5. You may:
    • cut and paste parts of articles and images.
    • save articles and images
    • print articles and images

    • Keep a research log of all interesting articles and images on your topic.
    • Keep track of home pages and the articles and images they contain.

Search Engines
Lycos -The Lycos Search Engine searches approximately 10.75 million URLs. That means they have cataloged about 91% of the web.
WebCrawler -WebCrawler doesn't search as many documents as Lycos but their help feature is excellent. This is a good place to start if you don't have much experience searching.
Yahoo -Yahoo's mission is to be the best guide for information and online discovery. Unlike Lycos and WebCrawler, Yahoo is a hierarchical subject-oriented guide. In other words, Yahoo lists sites and categorizes them into appropriate subject categories.
