is that we can see whole countries in a single
view. Traditional maps were based on people spending
months, if not years, trekking backwards and forwards
through the forest, only seeing a very small part
of it. GIS provides a deep picture, showing everything
from the abiotic things through groups of different
organisms through groups of different communities.David
