How to Look for Auroras
Where are auroras expected right now? Look for yellow or
red on the map below —these are the most likely zones.
(The light blue zone shows only the range over which data
was taken and does not indicate likely aurora zones.) Keep
in mind that auroras can only be seen at night. The red arrow
shows the current location of high noon.

Also check another predictive indicator known as the planetary
K-index,
or Kp
. This number from 0 to 9 measures geomagnetic
activity over the latest three-hour period. A Kp index of
5 or more means that aurora sightings are more likely.
