Welcome to a part of my world!

Thank you for viewing my first attempt in the wonderful world wide web. My special thanks goes to my family, the Wright Center for Innovation in Science Education at Tufts University , the University of San Francisco and the Exploratorium in San Francisco, California for helping to make this possible.

I have lived in Southeast Alaska for almost 20 years. When many people hear the word "Alaska" they think of cold weather -which is true for much of the state, but not for my town, Sitka . It is located in a temperate rain forest ecosystem-which means lots of rain! The wetness bothers some people, but I figure it's just the tradeoff for our beautiful Sitka Spruce and Hemlock trees.

I have been a high school science teacher for almost 20 years. I really enjoy my work - everyday is

different! There are about 450 students in grades 9-12 at Sitka High School. I mainly teach biology to

freshmen and sophomores . This is a year-long course which is required for graduation. I work

with two other science faculty; Kent Bovee who teaches the marine science courses and Rob Parsons

who's in charge of the physical sciences .
