How did a math teacher get involved with this group of science teachers??//
Let me tell you. I am part of a Math-Science Team awarded a
GIFT
GRANT BY GTE
for 1995-1996 . My partner,
Hilda
Bachrach
teaches Physics at Dana Hall and is here at this workshop.
Our GTE project centered around using TI82s and TI CBLs in our Precalculus
and Physics classrooms respectively.
In mathematics, we taught the students to use the calculator's statistical
and graphical capabilities to produce scatter plots and best-fit lines from
lists of data. Then in physics the students used the CBLs to collect real
data which was stored as lists on their calculators for follow-up analysis.
As a result of this workshop it occurs to me that we could also use the
Navigator, on a single computer, to gather lists of data about such things
as
earthquakes
,
and then ask the students to enter the data (or specified subsets of the
data) into their graphing calculators for plots and analysis.
