Biographical Information
Carlos Araiza from San Francisco, California, is a multi-instrumentalist/ singer/ composer/ arranger. He has performed and recorded professionally throughout Europe, South America, and United States. He has independently released four albums which have received local radio and television airplay in the Bay Area, Paris, France, and London England.
Besides performing with his own band, his credits include performance with: Daniel Valdez and Brotherhood/tenor sax & latin percussion, Gabino Palomares (Mexico)/bongo, Roy Brown(Puerto Rico)/bongo, Eddie and the Boppers/tenor sax & vocals, Los Peludos/bongo & flute, Conjunto Cespedes/flute, Los Compas/tenor sax & bongo, C Sugar Z/rapper, Coro Hispano/percussion, Olivier Noah (France)/piano, Cheo Concepcion y su Orquesta/timbales, San Francisco Taiko Dojo/drummer, Teatro Esperanza/music director, Carlos Baron Theater Arts Dept. productions @ SFSU music director, Red Rocket Theater/Music Director, Cubanacan/bongo y coro, Danilo y su Orquesta Universal/congas, Orquesta Roberto Pla (England)/flute, and was Music Director for San Francisco State University's Theater Arts Department productions.
He received his formal musical training from San Francisco's public school music programs and at San Francisco State University. He has also studied music privately with: Jerry Logas, Enrique Fernandez, Armando Peraza, Johnny Rodriguez, Jose Flores, John Santos, Seichi Tanaka, and Los Muñequitos de Matanzas (Cuba). He is currently working on his masters in Creative Arts Education at SFSU.
He, in collaboration with Susan Boshoven , a science teacher with SFUSD, and the Exporatorium TI , has developed a unit on Rhythm and Sound for teaching math and science concepts in a musical context. He has led and participated in several workshops with the Exploratoruim TI on multicultural education, and was involved with the development of the activities for Math Across Cultures, an Exploratorium Publication. .
