Polymer and Hydrogen Bonds

Discussion and Analysis Worksheet

1. How is the material you made different from the reactants? Be sure to comment on the following properties: A. Stickiness (How does it stick to different kinds of surfaces?) B. Bounciness (How well does it bounce?) C. Stretchiness (How well does it pull apart when pulled quickly? Very slowly?)

2. The synthesis of a polymer involves a chemical change. For each experiment what evidence do you have that a chemical change occurred? What evidence do you have that a chemical change did not occur?

3. Can you think of any uses for your new materials?

4. See this site for an explanation of the "glob" . In your own words explain how the properties of the glob are determined by the glob's molecular structure.

5. See this site for an explanation of the "slime." In your own words explain how the properties of "slime" are determined by the structure of slime molecules and how the molecules interact with their neighboring slime molecules.
