JAKE'S MATH LESSON
Look at my head. It's a beautiful example
of bilateral symmetry if I do say so myself. What's that?
Bi(2) lateral (side) symmetry (balance). See the line that
divides my nose down the middle? Don't you wish you had one?
If you look closely you'll see a line right up the middle of
my head. There are lots of examples of bilateral symmetry in
nature. Look at how cells
divide!
(This will download a video clip to your desktop. Double
click on it .) Look around. Do you see more examples? Things
humans make are often good examples.
Rover - what a weird name for a
car!
Humans have bilateral symmetry
too.
When humans make art they
usually make things be off-balance or asymmetrical
to create tension. Go figure.
.
Whoa! Here's a shape in nature
that creates some tension for me! Mom got all up in
my face when I jumped and barked at it. What's a
wasp anyway?
Now take your camera and take photos that
are examples of bilateral symmetry. Also get some examples
of asymmetrical shapes. Here are some of mine, click
here
to see some others.
Are my pictures examples of symmetry or asymmetry? Why do you think
so? Click

I would try if only I had opposable thumbs.
