BLOOD
VESSELS OF THE EYE lets visitors see the tiny blood vessels that
carry nourishment to their retinas. These vessels are normally invisible
because the brain eliminates them from view. In this exhibit, a
small penlight is gently moved against the closed eyelid. As long
as the light keeps moving, the eye can't adapt to the shadows of
the blood vessels and they become visible.
