Light

C - The Light

This exhibit lets you see and measure a good ballpark value for the speed of light. A laser shines through a hole at the edge of a rapidly spinning disk. The short pulse of light that makes it through must travel through 1/4 mile of optical fiber and then through different hole on the opposite side of the disk where it can be seen through a telescope. If the disk spins fast enough, the second hole will move out of the way by the time the light gets there and won't be seen.
