Camera Obscura - Such Ruins Give the Mind a Sense of Sadness

Drawing from a quote of architect Bernard Maybeck for the title of her piece and using 19th-century technology, the artist created a camera obscura that captures real-time images of Maybeck’s Palace of Fine Arts and projects them into the Exploratorium’s exhibit hall. This interactive camera allows visitors to shift the aperture from a slit to wide-angle or panoramic lenses, providing a 19th-century view of the world.
