Magnetic Spinner

A surprisingly simple exhibit, MAGNETIC SPINNER uses the scrapings from videotape and six rotating ceramic magnets to produce beautifully complex spiral patterns. Visitors spin the magnets using a hand held disc that can be freely maneuvered below the magnetic powder. The powder’s delicate response allows visitors to see the intricate interactions of the rotating magnetic fields. The mesmerizing effect is highlighted with a viewing lens and a low heat halogen light.
