Electricity and Magnetism

Magnetic Waves

MAGNETIC WAVES uses the magnetic field created by two large coils of copper. When electricity runs through coils, an oscillating current (AC) induces a quickly fluctuating magnetic field. The fine magnetic powder in the dish responds beautifully to this magnetic flux. Tracing the invisible magnetic currents, long rolling waves of magnetic powder arch and blossom as visitors create a near-infinite number of emerging patterns.
