Peripheral Vision

PERIPHERAL VISION demonstrates the range of the field of vision. The visitor’s nose is positioned in the center of a half-moon shaped table. A friend positions a wooden block off to the side of the table, far enough around that the observer can't detect it. Either a word or a symbol is painted in color on the block. As the friend slides the block slowly around the edge of the table towards the center, the observer can first perceive motion, then color, then shape. Only in the very center of the field of vision can the writing on the block be read.
