Repeating Words
REPEATING WORDS demonstrates
a sound illusion. Through earphones, the visitor listens to a word
or series of words repeated over and over with no pause in between
them. What the listener hears is often different from the words
actually spoken, as listed under the sign "Repeating Words."
Visitors will find that they can hear sounds that are not there.
These illusory words are heard quite clearly and it is hard for
observers to believe that they havent actually heard them.
Repeating sounds quickly lose their context. As listeners look for
meaning in a situation, they come up with different interpretations
of what is being said.
