Sand Sorter The sand sorter is an interesting tool we use to separate the magnetic portion of beach sand from the nonmagnetic portion. The method of sorting was so elegantly simple that we decided to put the sand sorter out on the exhibit floor as a how-does-it-work" type of exhibit. In this way the public has some fun with the sorter and we get our sand sorted! The sand is sorted by turning a crank on the front of the device which causes sand to fall past magnets which catch the magnetic part only."
