Vision

Vanna

This exhibit shows the difference between how humans perceive faces which are right-side-up and upside down. Two photographs of a woman's face (Vanna White) are each mounted on individual turntables which are fixed to a wall. When a visitor walks up to the photographs they are both seen upside down. Both look normal. However when the visitor flips the pictures so that they are right side up, one photo looks very strange. The eyes and mouth in this strange picture have been cut out of the photograph and replaced upside down. The alteration of the photograph is painfully obvious when the photo is viewed right-side-up but much less noticeable when upside down.
