Watchful Grasshopper

A grasshopper (Schistocerca Nitens) has electrodes implanted on either side of its ventral nerve cord to pick up signals traveling along it. The impulses associated with the detection of movement by the grasshopper's eyes are especially large and easily detected. The visitor stimulates visual responses by making sudden motions near the grasshopper. Habituation of the nervous system can be observed by repeated movements. The electrical activity is displayed on an oscilloscope as well as being amplified and played through a speaker.
