This dynamic presentation digitally recreates three auditory illusions found at the Exploratorium Science Museum in San Francisco, California.

The illusions-

  • The Shepard Scale
  • The Tritone Paradox
  • The Risset Scale
are each illustrated on the following pages via interactive video presentations.

So what does this all amount to?

First of all it's fun! Playing with our 'one of a kind' keyboard will rouse your imagination and, even when we explain how it works, we bet it will still remain a mystery.

In the realm of science, these aural paradoxes are used to study human perception, emotions and the workings of the brain.

The site works best with the latest version of Netscape and or Internet Explorer and utilizes the Shockwave plug-in. There are three interactive multimedia exhibits on this site. Down load times are moderate.
