Once
a batch of seeds passes the germination test, the next step is to clean
and package some seeds in small lots to be put into freezers. For
each seed variety, five small bags are filled, labeled, and grouped
together in a larger bag for storage. For these freezer samples,
NS/S staff collect seeds from as many different plants as possible,
because this will help to preserve the diversity within the variety.
Here you can see small bags of three different sunflower varieties
destined for the freezer.
