As the
seeds are cleaned and bagged, staff keep careful records. With corn,
for example, notes are made about the length of each ear that seeds are
taken from, germination rates, the weight of 100 clean seeds, and other
information. This, along with photos of leaves, seeds, and flowers, helps
staff know what the plant and its seeds look like if there aren't any adult
plants available for reference.
