Viewing
the Birth of Stars
The
Hubble Space Telescope has revealed the first images of newly
formed stars called
proplyds
, which are the tiny objects
shown here. Arising inside gas clouds known as nebulas, proplyds
begin as clumps of matter that grow by collecting mass through
gravitational attraction. The Hubble images of these never-seen-before
baby stars offer astronomers valuable details of the stellar
birth process.
