How students should be able to meet the Performance Standards
Specific tasks that meet the standard in Rocks, Sand, and Soil are written like this.

Properties of Matter

1.1 Describing the shape of various objects

1.2 Comparing various objects for similarities and differences.

1.3 Describing the shape, texture, size, and color of various objects . Exploring and relating the differences between ice, water, and gas

1.4 Developing a permanent list of the properties of matter for the classroom using student words and science words.

Magnetism and Electricity

4.1 Exploring magnets and their use.

4.2 Observing and demonstrating how some objects can be moved by magnets without touching the object.

4.3 Observing how a magnet "pushes or pulls" and how magnets have opposite poles that either attract or repel.

4.4 Predicting which objects, by magnetic attraction or lack of attraction, will be attracted to magnets.

Structures of Matter

6.1 Grouping materials based on specific attributes that those materials possess.

6.2 Classifying a group of objects according to their similarities such as objects made of wood, plastic, paper, cloth, or metal

6.3 Comparing and describing similar and different characteristics among solids, liquids, and gases.

6.4 Observing and charting the quality of a material according to how well sound travels through it.

6.5 Comparing and describing similarities and differences among various samples of materials , for example, wood splinters, wood shavings, sawdust, wood furniture and wooden pencils.
