SOUND COLUMN is a musical
instrument whose resonating chamber is a 60-foot-high room in a
column of the rotunda of the Palace of Fine Arts. Inside are six
polished steel bars with a striker. When the tuned bars are struck,
the air of the column resonates. The nodes and antinodes of the
standing waves can be experienced by walking up and down a ramp.
