Lying in a crib in a darkened side room (my bedroom as a child), my mom was standing in the doorway singing "Good Night". Behind her was a lit room somewhere. When I asked my parents about this, giving them some of the details, they said that the only place that fit the arrangement was our first home. This, combined with the crib, meant that I was no more than 1 year old. I don't remember anything else until after my second birthday.

I refused to use the bathroom in my kindergarten classroom because there was a small hole in the door and some of the boys would look through the hole when a girl went in there. We only had half-day school and I had always been blessed with a huge bladder, so I always held it until I got home at noon. But on my sixth birthday (of all days!) it didn't work - I wet my pants about an hour before school got out. My mom brought me new pants so I could change and stay at school for my birthday party. Then, that afternoon, I had a birthday party at the park with my friends. I ate a lot of cake and drank lots of Kool Aid. Too much Kool Aid, as it turns out, because I wet my pants again while I was on the tire swing! After not wetting my pants for almost two years, I had done it twice in one day! I know this is accurate, because my mother reminded me of it on my daughter's sixth birthday.

I have retold it occasionally as a young adult, especialy the part about being treated with butter and a spoon pressed against my forehead to reduce the swelling. In retrospect I found it amusing. I remember watching guys on skidoos racing through our backyard (?), my cousins coming to visit with a trailer and going to have homemade ice cream at Dennison`s Mill (3), I remember going to a Halloween party and running all over the place, Mum had made my costume (2), when my parents bought our house and I didn`t want to move I would turn my head away when we drove by, when my Dad was getting me ready to go home from my grandparents` house and I didn`t want to leave so I was crying and being generally uncooperative(4), my vaguely my first, second and third birthdays, definitely my fourth. I remember my friend, Peter McKenzie and the moving van being parked in front of his house. He gave me his yellow and black tricycle. I thought he was the cat`s pyjamas(4). I was sad that he moved away. The memories from 4 on are so vivid!

I can remember going outside in the evening behind our 6-tenement apartment building, and taking off all of my clothes, except my underwear, off so I could "swim" in a puddle. My best friend`s Mum (who lived downstairs from us) came out and I told her that Mum said I could! I remember feeling sort of stupid for doing it, and guilty because I lied. There was a pretty pink sunset.

I remember standing beside my Mum while she was changing my brother Chad`s diaper. She told me to feel her stomach because the baby was moving (my brother Darren). I did and I put my ear to her stomach too, and I can remember hearing and feeling the sound. I was three years old. I know this is true, I have mentioned it to family members, but Mum doesn`t remember it- I don`t think it was as significant for her as it was for me. Years later, when my friend was pregnant I listened as her baby moved around and knew the sound.

Being in Peggy`s Cove, Nova Scotia on vacation. I sat to have my portrait drawn. The artist looked like Nana Mouskouri. Watching her draw my curly hair, I learned how to draw curly hair too, and after that everyone had curly hair! Mum and Dad bought my little brother Chad and I sweaters, Chad`s was blue with Donald Duck faces on the buttons. Mine was pink with a green paper doll pattern with little cat faces on the buttons. In a little shop I got to choose a knitted bunny finger puppet. I chose the blue one because it was my favourite colour, but I can still remember looking at the dark pink one for a long time. I was two and a half years old. I have talked about this memory with family members but most of all I have just remembered it. It was a really beautiful day it felt sort of magical - the blue, blue sky, the lighthouse at Peggy`s Cove, the darkish room where we had our portraits drawn. I even remember what sweater I had on before I got my new one. I remember feeling like it was a great day. Now I am 25 years old.

When I was about 2 or 3, my bed was under a floor to ceiling window in the house that we lived in (it has since burned down, so I am not sure if it is actually as big as i remember it, or if It just seemed so because I was so small) One night there was a lightning storm, and it scared me so bad I wet the bed. I think that the only person that I told this to was my husband. My mother seems to remember it the same way, but can't recall why my bed would be under this window, she says that it was across the room.

I have always, throughout childhood, had two prominant memories. One was being stuck with a pin during diaper changes by my sister who is ten years older. I had told this story to my mother several times when I was between the ages of 8 and 12 years old. She confirmed it, saying that my sister was very mean to me when I was a baby and very resentful that she had to assist with my care. The other is a memory of a scene from Kennedy's funeral. I was in a room which I use to be able to describe in detail and I was in a walker. I had told the story a few times over the years and my mother confirmed it. She said that during the news covearge of the whole incident from the first reports she was "glued" to the television and I was always by her side -- in my walker. Several years ago, I saw a report on Kennedy's assassination in which the very scene from my memory was aired. That is when I proved the accuracy of my memory. The memory had been so detailed that I had searched for its accuracy over the years and had not before been able to verify it because that particular funeral scene apparently is rarely shown. The moment I saw it as an adult, it jolted me and conjured up that memory of the room, etc just as if it were yesterday.

My earliest memory is of being terrified by a toy "musical top" toy. My mother sat me in a corner and took away all my other toys except the top, which she set spinning. I remember screaming and then a very odd thing happened -- I was floating somewhere that seemed like outer space. (that is, NOW it seems like outer space, back then it just Existed and I didn't question it). A couple of years ago I told my mother of this and she denied that it had ever happened. However, she asked me to describe the woman (which I did, mostly her legs) and the room. Unbeknownst to me, I had been fostered from age 3 months to age 13 months. My foster mother put my crib in the room I described, my mother remembered. If this is true, I must have been at least 6 months (I was able to sit but not walk, which I started to do at almost 11 months, according to my foster mother). I had never heard of memories so early, but I have brief vague memories of the time before 3 years of age. Then my memories are more or less normally concrete.

I was about 1 and I eptyed a whole bottle of baby oil in my crib. Then I started to cry because my bed smelled funny. Then I remember Mom came into my room, she looked VERY mad. Then she started laughing. She picked me up and I spend the rest of the night in her bed. I have never told anyone about this before. I often dream about it, so I'm pretty sure it's accurate.

I was about 2 and our dog, Patsy, was having a litter of puppies outside. It was very cold and my dad was inside the doghouse helping her and I crawled in to watch. I remember it being smelly and bloody but fascinating. My dad got mad at me and made me leave, although I really don't know why because all I was doing was sitting quietly. I don't remember any of the puppies. I haven't told this often, but have thought of it many times. I'm pretty sure it's accurate.
Kathi Stein
I remember going to bed with my Mrs. Beasley doll. Before falling asleep, I asked my mother if I could go to the park. She yelled to my older brother and cousin that they were to take me to the park first thing in the morning. They muttered under their breath. I fell asleep very happy. It's hard to deny a three year old.
Karen Hope
I was throwing a fit. I was probably around three. My door didnt have a lock from the outside so my mother had to hold the door shut. Oh how I screamed. My mother said and in her loving voice, "You can't come out until you stop crying." I peeked through the crack of the door and saw my mother's smiling face. It's funny how you remember the comforting times.
Jeni
I was in the kitchen sitting in a highchair; it must have been the summer I turned three. My mom had finished frosting a cake with pink icing. Maybe my mom was doing the dishes with her back to me or maybe she had left the room, but I remember pulling apart "Contact" capsules to "decorate" the cake with the small pastel colored contents of the medicine. Looking out the window wondering when daddy was coming home when my parents were separated. I was barely two. They got back together, but even 20+ years later I miss my dad terribly when I think of it. I told my mom and dad once and it made them cry. They had no idea the separation had affected me so. I'm sure it's accurate because my grandmother confirmed having to chase me down on my tricycle. I apparently told her I was out looking for my dad.

My brother's friend had a helium balloon. I wanted to hold it so much. I promised I wouldn't let it go. I bothered him until he let me. I let it go. Later at my house I hid in a closet when he came over. I was about 3.

Asking for a cup of milk instead of a bottle. I was about 1 year old. I only remember telling my mother about the memorey 1x and asking about how old I would have been. I think it is accurate though the memory isn't as clear as it was when I told it a few years ago. I remember remembering it.

The summer before I began first grade, my grandma from England came for a visit her daughter (my mother) who lived on a failing farm in West Virginia. My first memories are of that visit. We missed her connection on the train, and after waiting for hours and watching train after train come in without her, we finally gave up and went home. When we arrived, she was sitting on our porch, knitting. Grandma had figured out how to get to our hometown on the train system--something we had never even figured out for ourselves. I'm sure this is an accurate memory because I can still remember the grief my mother was in when grandma didn't get off any of the trains and she cried all the way home. Then when she saw grandma just sitting there waiting on the porch, she (and all of us) were in a state of joy. It had to be one of the highlights

My earliest memory is of waking up in a hospital bed/crib after a serious accident. I was 6. I remember the gastro-nasal tube quite vividly, as well as the IV in my arm. I also remember looking out the hospital window and looking down on a city. The doctors said I had been clinically dead (collapsed lungs and crushed chest). I have no memory of anything before that hospital room. I'm 28 now.
