Personal Belongings (1996, 63 min.) by Steven Bognar is a candid portrait of the filmmaker's father, Bela Bognar, who participated in the 1956 Hungarian Revolution and then immigrated to Ohio in 1961. Over the course of 30 years, Steven combines his home movies with archival footage to examine his father's intricate life.

Letters to a Stranger (1997, 13 min.) by Ray Wang weaves together educational films about China with footage of Wang's elderly father and images of the Angel Island internment center to comment on the Chinese in America and his relationship with his father.

Flight (1996, 5 min.) by Greta Snyder, is an experimental montage of fleeting, ghostly images in a tribute to the filmmaker's father and to the fragile, temporal nature of life.

Memory Film Series: Remembering Our Fathers
Curated by Filmmaker-in-Residence Gustavo Vazquez
McBean Theater, 2 pm, Sunday

The Paternal Line (1995, 80 min.) by Jose Buil and Marisa Sistach , chronicles his family's past through the amazing discovery of 300 films that the filmmaker's grandfather shot over the course of 15 years, from 1923 to 1938. Besides capturing the rituals and festivities of the family and the surrounding village, this poetic documentary also captures the longing and sentimentality that comes with nostalgia.

October 24 & 25
Family Memory Making
Near the Exploratorium Cafe, 12 noon-4 pm, Saturday & Sunday

Capture images and share your memories with photographer Corwin Hankins. Hankins has developed a three-phase workshop that will give you the tools to evoke memories from the past, record experiences at the museum, and share them for others to enjoy. Bring in slides and transform them into beautiful image transfers, or bring in objects or clothing of significance and make a portrait of yourself. You can also create instant memories by checking out a camera and photographing images of your visit.

October 31 & November 1
Special Memory Event: "Plays at an Exhibition"
McBean Theater, 2 pm, Saturday & Sunday

In collaboration with the Magic Theatre , the Exploratorium presents "Plays at an Exhibition , " the first in a series of two weekend readings by local playwrights. To develop these plays, writers will go through the Exploratorium's Memory show and create plays based on their experiences with the exhibition. A team of eight actors and two directors will rehearse and read the pieces during the first weekend. Audiences will have an opportunity to share their own personal observations about the exhibition and respond to the plays. The playwrights will rewrite the plays, which will presented on the second weekend, Saturday and Sunday, November 7 & 8. Refreshments will be served.
