Light Painting
How did we do it? This image was made by shining light on the subjectÕs arms with a flashlight. We turned off the flashlight while he moved his arms to a new position, then lit them again... and again, and again. We also made sure to light his head and body once while he stood very still. Notice that just under his head the image is over-exposed because the flashlight returned there each time his arms were lit. Multiple exposures can create some fascinating illusions.
Light Painting is a great way to create striking images and illusions using a camera, a light source, and a little practice. When the camera shutter is open (and the room is dark) the film or digital sensor acts like a blank canvas. ItÕs as if the image is being drawn or painted by the light source as it moves through space.
