The Exploratorium transformed by the "Black Hole"

On at least 10 days during the first semester my high school physics classroom turns into a miniature version of the Exploratorium. Students wander from station to station, answering questions and making observations. To accomplish this with some degree of order I have students divide their notebooks into 4 columns. (Two columns on each of the facing pages.) Each station has a title, which is listed on the board. The students record these titles in order, but go to stations in any order. Column one is a description of what activity they do (What I did). Column 2 is a description of the observations (What Happened). Columns 3 and 4 we fill in on the following day (Why and So What?)

Click on one of the boxes below to find a list and short description of the stations for a topic or return to Heidi's Homepage . These pages have been designed with the assumption that those reading them have been through the Teacher Institute and are familiar with the Snackbook. If you would like further information as to how I go about presenting this information contact me through e-mail : hblack@exploratorium.edu
